OUR CURRENT POWER STATUS
More technically, Acueducto is a fully off-grid property, which brings all of our resource use into greater focus. The home is powered by an expansive solar power system and has a backup propane generator. Guests will avoid using electricity derived from the fuel oil generators in La Paz, some of the dirtiest power in North America. Water — our most precious resource in the desert — is trucked in and as such, is highly valued and should be enjoyed responsibly. Special focus was spent on the wastewater system - utilizing several mechanical and biologic filters - so that the water can be safely reused to irrigate the permaculture gardens. One of those filters grows carrizo reeds (Arundo donax), which will be cut down at intervals and used to replace the home's fencing and pergolas. Composting, recycling, and reduction of single-use plastic are emphasized to reduce our landfill impact.
Sustainability, to us, is about ownership of impact, transparency, and humility. More attention is necessary to return us to a better balance and harmony within the natural world. We view this home as an opportunity to demonstrate what sustainable hospitality can be and feel like. Rest assured, guests will know that Acueducto will always endeavor to increase positive impacts through the community and environment while working to reduce our negative outputs.
OUR COMMITTMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Acueducto was created to be a Net Positive Travel experience, providing a reciprocal exchange between the venue, guest, and local community. Each entity is benefited, made whole, and leaves the experience feeling an authentic abundance. We designed the home as a small-scale, high-impact environment. The story at the heart of the experience fosters a greater appreciation for the culture of LosChoyeros and the four dramatic landscapes that make Baja so special: the mountains, the desert, the oasis, and the ocean. For us, a net positive experience invites guests into this story; creating impactful memories, new awareness to bring home, and lasting curiosity.
